2012 Ferrari 612 Preview

The first spy photographs of the 2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti appeared on the Internet in 2009. The true identity of the newest model of Ferrari’s large 2+2 grand touring coupe will be revealed shortly –in early March 2011.

Introduction

Ferrari, S.p.A is no ordinary automobile manufacturer. No product of Maranello is an ordinary automobile. So it makes perfect sense for Ferrari to introduce the 2012 Scaglietti on one of the biggest stages in the automotive world – the International Geneva Auto Show in Geneva, Switzerland.
The 2011 edition is scheduled for Thursday, March 3 through Sunday the 13th. It will be the 81st in the distinguished history of the event, which began way back in 1905.
Until the shroud is lifted literally and/or figuratively in the convention center that will host the show – the Geneva Palexpo, the true identity of the 2012 Scaglietti remains a mystery. However, the sum of the spy information – photographs, copy and video – provides more than an inkling that Ferrari has given its flagship grand tourer a major overhaul.
The consensus of spy sources is that test-mule versions of the 2012 Scaglietti are larger than the current production model. Thus, the question is what enhancements will Ferarri house in the longer wheelbase.

Performance and Technology

It is not clear whether the 2012 Scaglietti will be equipped with Ferrari’s HY-KERS gasoline-hybrid technology that debuted on the 599 GTB Fiorano concept car at the 2010 International Geneva Auto Show.
Based on technology developed for and utilized in Ferrari’s Formula 1 race cars, HY-KERS assists during acceleration on the open road as well as during low-speed movement in electric mode.
Possibilities for the 2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti include four-wheel drive and a power bulge in the hood to accommodate a new V12 engine with direct fuel injection. A new front may include a new bumper. And a new rear may include a new configuration for the two tailpipes — stacked vertically instead of the current side-by-side arrangement.

Safety Features

The 2012 Scaglietti may retain the folowing standard safety features — antilock disc brakes, stability control and traction control as well as dual front air bags.

Competition to the 2012 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

The 2012 Ferarri Scaglietti will continue to be one of the few entrants in the 2+2 grand touring supercar class. Its competitors continue to include the Aston Martin DB9 and the Bentley Continental GT.
Sales of the 2012 Ferarri Scaglietti are expected to commence in mid-2011. Its price reportedly will be in the neighborhood of 300,000 euros.
